Competition Rules

Club competition is based on the Rules of Athletics NSW & Little Athletics Association NSW and Rules Amendments as approved by the Club Executive Committee

Please read the updated 2024 Rules of Competition released by Little Athletics NSW 29 October 2024. For clarity on the changes please see the Table of Rule Changes 

AGE GROUPINGS FOR WALLSEND CLUB COMPETITION ONLY

  • For Club Competition athletes remain in the same age group throughout the season.
  • Veterans shall be ladies 30 years to 49 years and men 30 years to 49 years
  • Masters shall be ladies and men 50 years and over (WAVA 50+ rules will apply)

TRACK EVENTS age restrictions

1500 meters restricted to 9 years (U10) and over
3000 meters restricted to 12 years (U13) and over
400m Hurdles restricted to 17 years (U18) and over

 

FIELD EVENTS age restrictions

HIGH JUMP restricted to 8 years  (U 9) and over
TRIPLE JUMP restricted to 10 years  (U11) and over
POLE VAULT restricted to 13 years  (U14) and over
JAVELIN restricted to 10years  (U11) and over
HAMMER THROW restricted to 15 years  (U17) and over

                        

FIELD EVENT rule restrictions

LONG JUMP

5 -11 yrs (U6-U12) ages use 0.50m x 1.2m sand square

 
12yrs – Masters (U13+) use 20cm x 1.2m takeoff board
TRIPLE JUMP
10yrs – Masters (U11+) use 20cm x 1.2m takeoff boards
THROWS
All ages, all throwing events, 3 rounds only, including fouls
Best performance of each athlete is measured and recorded
HIGH JUMP
3 attempts at each height permitted
3 consecutive misses or 3 consecutive baulks at a height rules the athlete out of the event
8 yrs (U9) 9 yrs (U10) must perform a scissor jump ONLY as per LA Australia ruling
POLEVAULT
3 attempts at each height permitted
3 consecutive misses or 3 consecutive baulks at a height rules the athlete out of the event

 

EVENT OFFICIALS HAVE AUTHORITY TO EXCLUDE ANY ATHLETE FROM COMPETITION FOR UNRULY OR DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOUR or who in the opinion of the judges is not competing in the spirit of the event.

 

All TRACK RECORDS must be claimed at end of a race on the night of performance and must be checked by Chief Timekeeper & SIGNED OFF

All FIELD RECORDS must be claimed at the event on the night of the performance and must be checked by a Club Official & SIGNED OFF.

A Record Certificate is issued for every Record equalled or set at Club Competition. Record Certificates will be presented at our Club’s Presentation & Awards Ceremony.

Records can only be credited to your own Age Group. This is regardless of whether the performance is better than the Record in a higher Age Group.
