Wallsend Athletics Club — Policies & Safeguarding

Our commitment Wallsend Athletics Club is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, safety and fairness in sport. We strive to provide an inclusive, respectful and child-safe environment for all athletes, officials, volunteers and spectators. Child safety and wellbeing are core values of our club.

Scope and compliance This page outlines our key policies and the standards we follow. The Club complies with the policies of NSW Athletics and all relevant statutory requirements in New South Wales.

Key policies:

  • Smoke Free Policy (including Vaping)— Little Athletics NSW
    • Wallsend Athletics operates smoke-free grounds at training and competition venues in line with Little Athletics, Newcastle City Concil and NSW health regulations.
  • Wallsend Athletics Club Inc. Constitution
    • The Club’s governing document that sets out purpose, structure, roles, duties and decision-making processes.
  • Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act 1998
    • We comply with NSW child protection laws, including requirements relating to prohibited persons, screening and working with children checks.
  • Privacy Policy
    • Personal information collected by the Club is handled in accordance with privacy law; information is collected only for legitimate club purposes and stored securely.
  • Sexual Harassment Policy
    • The Club will not tolerate sexual harassment. Allegations are taken seriously and handled promptly, confidentially and impartially.
  • IAAF (World Athletics) Competition Rules
    • Competition conduct, equipment and event rules are governed by the applicable Athletics rules adopted by NSW Athletics.
  • Hot Weather/ Lightening Policies
    • Procedures for cancelling, modifying or relocating activities to protect athlete health in extreme heat (including hydration, shade, event modification and cancellation thresholds), or in the event of Lightening.

Reporting concerns and incidents If you observe or experience behaviour that breaches club policy, child safety obligations, harassment or any other concern:

  • In an emergency, call 000.
  • Report to the Club’s President or Safety Officer
  • If the concern involves the Club’s leadership or Safety Officer, report to NSW Athletics
  • For matters requiring statutory intervention (suspected abuse, criminal conduct), reports will be made to NSW Police and/or Department of Communities and Justice as required.

Confidentiality and support:  Reports are treated seriously and handled confidentially to the extent possible. The Club will support affected persons, provide information on counselling and advocacy services, and follow legal obligations for mandatory reporting and privacy.

Screening and training:  All people working or volunteering with children in our Club must meet NSW screening requirements (Working With Children Checks) and follow our codes of conduct.
