Championships Information
CHAMPIONSHIPS
In addition to the regular weekly competitions and training days, Little Athletics also conducts a Championship Program of Carnivals for U7 to U17 age groups. This consists of:
ZONE CHAMPIONSHIP
U7- U17- A “ZONE” is a collection of LA centres close together and they compete to select their best athletes who can then go on to represent them at the REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. We are a member of the PORT HUNTER ZONE. U7 athletes receive medals on the day and do not progress to Regional. Numbers of events entered by the club are limited in some age groups so think carefully about which events are your favourite/ best before entering.
WARNING: As STATE is a 3 day program, the day of your event at State may be different to Zone and Regional. Check the program supplied.
REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
U8-U17- A “REGION” is a collection of zones close together and they compete to select their best athletes who can then represent them at the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. We are a part of REGION 2 (after a change to all the regions we no longer have to travel to Coffs Harbour or Tamworth but probably only Tuggerah or Glendale). U8 athletes receive medals on the day and do not progress to State.
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
U9-U17- This is a very important carnival where the best athletes from all over NSW gather to compete. It is usually the 3rd or 4th weekend in March and at Olympic Park, Homebush Bay, Sydney.
WARNING: As STATE is a 3 day program, the day of your event at State may be different to Zone and Regional. Check the program supplied.
Taking part is optional. You do not have to go on to Regional if you win at Zone, but keep in mind you may be stopping a fellow club member from competing who would be able to proceed if they qualified.
Other carnivals during the year include:
TRANS TASMAN
U11-U12- Trials first week of November, Competition in January either in New Zealand or Sydney, alternating.
STATE RELAYS
U8-U17- last weekend of November at Sydney Olympic Park.
STATE MULTI-EVENT
U7- U17- similar to a heptathlon/ decathlon where you compete in all events and earn points. It is held in the first week of March in a country venue.
STATE CROSS COUNTRY AND ROAD WALKS
held 1st weekend of July.
